I'm so glad I saw your post. I didn't realize they'd finally added the rest of Season Four!

Until I went back and read my older post about it only being six episodes, I couldn't figure why I had stopped partway through, chuckle.

Here's one more GB reference, from the tenth and final episode in Season Four.

And best of all, it comes from Carol Kane, who DID play a ghost in a scene with Bill Murray once upon a time. (In 1988's Scrooged, she was the Ghost of Christmas Present.)

The library line was so subtle it didn't register until she mentioned Siggy.

Again, thanks for letting me know there was a little more Kimmy to be seen. The final episode put a nice little bow on the entire series.

ah that's brilliant, I missed that line when I watched through it.

Apparently they are currently filming a one off special episode for next year, its going to be interactive much like that 'choose your own path' episode of Black Mirror that Netflix made earlier this year.

I was playing the new rpg Greedfall (by French developer Spider) and I got a chuckle out of a guard leader being named Egon, but I didn't think it was a reference to Ghostbusters, then I saw one of the later quest objectives - "Eliminate Egon's men in the old ghost camp." I think we can mark it down as a reference.

Not a reference as such, but if you ever wanted to see the RGB toy Ex-Cop getting down with his bad self to some sweet early 90's dance music - well I guess Double Trouble featuring The Rebel MC have you covered! How did I never notice this at the time?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE0hwfCu-m4

Twenty years old, but "New" to me...

In case anyone ever needs a soundbyte of Harrison Ford saying "Who ya gonna call?", check out the movie What Lies Beneath from 2000.

Just watched "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot". They spend the entire movie talking trash about reboots/remakes, and about how reboots ruin the original movie. They go to "Chronic Con" basically a convention about their comic book character, and for some reason, there are multiple attendees walking around with proton packs. There are folks dress as Jay and Silent Bob, but with legit proton packs, even someone in a full flight suit. There is no explanation for this... but I took it as an insult towards Answer The Call. Why else would there be Ghostbusters references in a movie critical of reboots?

Whilst googling Deniece Williams' Let's Hear It for the Boy, I came across an animated music video using the song from the anime "adaptation"* of Cypher, which in turn brought this piece of cover artwork for the manga to my attention:

Image

*I use adaptation in the loosest sense because it seems to be the exception to the rule of anime adaptations of printed manga, in that it apparently assumes the person watching it has already read the book, and as such foregoes any actual storytelling beyond whatever's shown in the visuals.

What exists of the story is mostly set in New York in the mid-1980s (the manga was first serialized in 1985, whilst the anime came out in 1989), so it's not surprising the Ghostbusters logo made an appearance on the cover of the first volume, though a subsequent reprint via DC's defunct CMX brand has removed it.

A small one spinning out of last Friday's episode of the soap opera Neighbours (8341):

Whilst characters Shane Rebecci and daughter Yashvi were having a conversation, Shane's brother Jared overhead part of what they were talking about and asked: "Who you gonna call?"

To deflect away from the person they were talking about, Shane responded with "Ghostbusters".

They shot this sequence at the actual San Diago Comic Con, so I assume those extras are just convention goers who were just dressed like that to begin with.

Probably not the first to notice this, but in the movie "The Man Who Knew Too Little," there's a bit character named "Venkman" who kinda sorta tries to kill Bill Murray, but before he can, Bill Murray beats Venkman up. Not sure if that was the writer's joke, or Bill Murray's joke based on how he felt about Ghostbusters at the time...

Even though it was on TV from 2010 to 2016, I just now discovered the show 'Hot in Cleveland', and began binge-watching it on YouTube. The storylines always surprise me, even when I think they will follow a predictable formula, the writing is brilliant, the characters are clearly defined from the get-go, and the acting is exquisite. Of the four main leads, it was Wendie Malick's character 'Victoria Chase' who quickly became my favorite, edging out the arguably more recognizable Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, and Betty White.

Now, I've liked Wendie in everything I've seen her in, including HBO's Dream On, Just Shoot Me, Frasier, and the very first place I ever saw her, as Frank Cross' sister-in-law in Scrooged (I'm still convinced there was a longer scene of his apology to her when I saw it at the theater). But I hadn't realized what an absolute gem she was until she played self-absorbed actress Victoria Chase, who often loses count of how many times she's been married, or even how many children she has.

So how does this belong in a Ghostbusters References thread?

In Season 2 Episode 8, "LeBron is Le Gone", Victoria is reminded by Joy (Leeves) that her marriages total five. Victoria's response almost seems to be a throwaway detail at first: "Oh shoot! I always forget Ernie Hudson."
[Jump to the 18:04 mark.]

But it proved to be no mere throwaway; the show had impressive continuity. More than two years later, in S4E22 "All My Exes", Victoria is about to get remarried and reaches out to her previous husbands for advice on why those marriages failed. When asked if she'd heard from them all, Victoria lists Ernie and one other that had yet to respond. [7:44]

Right about now, there's someone reading this who is itching to post that mentions of an actor don't necessarily make it a 'Ghostbusters reference', so thanks for continuing to read the entire thing before jumping the gun.

In S5E11, "Undercover Lovers", the characters find themselves in a radio debate with a city councilman who constantly reminds the listeners that he's in a wheelchair, is African-American, and is a former football hero. Fearing that disagreeing with him will ruin her chances at an Oscar due to perception of being 'racist' or 'disablist'-- I did say she was self-absorbed, right?-- Victoria mentions her marriage to "Ghostbuster" Ernie, and for good measure points out that "the great Ray Parker Jr. "sang at their wedding. [12:04]

[There's another irony to the Ray Parker Jr. reference for us GB Fans; Victoria's recurring former flame Johnny Revere, who appears in five episodes ranging from season 1 to the final show, is played by Huey Lewis.]

By this point, three mentions of Ernie Hudson in three years' worth of shows, I was hoping all of this foreshadowing was building to a payoff, and a quick check of the imdb proved me right. Ernie Hudson did guest-star in the Christmas episode of the sixth and final season.

But that was also when I discovered that season six was the only one not currently uploaded to YouTube.

I did find a promo for the episode:

And some bloopers:

But the only free online copy of S6E7, "Cold in Cleveland", is on dailymotion, and it was altered in order to elude copyright algorithms. It's flipped mirror image, it's slightly zoomed in, and even the voices sound a bit pitched-down (or maybe they slowed the footage down a bit?).

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7nuszg
[His scenes start at approximately the 5:00 mark]

The storyline has Victoria reaching out to Ernie, who's in Cleveland to do a play, to get the rights to the 70s film where they first met and fell in love, "Disco Christmas". She wants to ban it because she's tired of people constantly quoting the tagline to her during the holidays: "Merry Christmas, jive turkey!"

As she tells Ernie, "It's humiliating! Strangers quote it to me on the street. I'm sure they do the same to you."
To which he reminds her, "I was in Ghostbusters."

There's one more ham-handed reference immediately following that where she threatens to 'haunt' him for the rest of his days if he doesn't give her the rights to the movie. I'm sure you can predict his response. (Hint: It's from that song for which their wedding singer was most famous!)

Ernie appears a couple more times in the episode, as part of the reason Victoria learns to laugh at her past and not be so shallow about it, but no more Ghostbusters references occur.

EDIT: So it occurs to me a couple of hours after posting this that if they "met and fell in love" on a disco-themed picture from the 70s, why was Ray Parker Jr. singing at their wedding? So I re-watched the scene from S5E11 again, and she doesn't specify what song he sang, only that it moved Flip Wilson to tears.

Turns out both Ray and Flip did start their careers before the 70s, so maybe the (fictitious) wedding wasn't in 1984 as I originally assumed.

Although not a direct "reference," I noticed something fun while watching the underrated horror-comedy anthology film THE WILLIES. The character Gordy Belcher (one of many great character names in THE WILLIES) -- played by Michael Bower ("Donkeylips" from SALUTE YOUR SHORTS, and "Danny" from Ivan Reitman's EVOLUTION) -- is eating a typical school kid's lunch circa 1990: cheeseburgers, nacho cheese Doritos, and every ghosthead's favorite sugary beverage: Ecto Cooler!

Image

Also, he appears to have some Twinkies™ in there as well (possibly influenced by Dr. Egon Spengler?). :sigh:

The movie is currently free on YouTube, and I highly recommend it. It's basically like a kiddie version of CREEPSHOW, but still gross 'n' gory enough to get a PG-13 rating. The tagline says it all: You'll Laugh, You'll Cry, You'll Puke, You'll Die!

Didn't see it listed in the thread, but I was bingeing Cobra Kai yesterday when there's a Ghostbusters reference in season one episode four. Two of Daniel Larusso's dealership employees ask why they're dressed like Ghostbusters while they're fixing a defaced billboard featuring Daniel san.

Okay, I'm a bit ashamed to post this, but the wife and I have been watching a show called "L.A.s Finest" which stars Jessica Alba, Gabrielle Union and our beloved Ernie Hudson. The show is a mess, and I don't know where they got the title from but these detectives are far from being anyone's finest anything. :)

But back to the topic...

In the 11th episode which is titled "Thief", Ernie's character and two of the detectives go into a warehouse undercover as exterminators. Rat's to be exact.

Ernie goes on about why they are there but is interrupted when one of the detectives gets spooked when he sees a rat. The bad guys asks if he has a problem, to which the detective replies, "I ain't afraid of no Rat".

I know, not much to go with but it caught my attention.

The other detective tries to play off his fear of rats as the guy being more of a roach specialist, and that there's an infestation down at city hall and most of the rat guys are over there.

When Ernie continues, "You know how it is, when the mayor's on the phone you have to Answer the Call".

Now I'm thinking, this wasn't just coincidence, then the bombshell...

The bad guy questions their ability when Ernie continues with, "You could have somebody else come in here, but it sounds like you tried everybody else in town, so, Who Ya Gonna Call?"

I was so excited leap out of me seat and shouted, "DID YOU HEAR THAT?". My wife looked up at me and said, heard what? Oh well, I guess she doesn't share my affection with Ghostbusting. :)

Again, this is not new. But perhaps it has historical significance.

ALF episode "We're in the Money", S4E4, originally aired October 9, 1989.

Image

Willie Tanner: Some people are blinded by the thirst for money. And it makes them lose their values and-- and go crazy and do things they shouldn't do.

ALF: That explains Ghostbusters 2.

(I've been watching the complete series for free on tubi, but after I posted this graphic on my Facebook page, Casey Lucia found the clip already on YouTube.)

PS

Nearly forgot. Earlier in the episode, a possible inclusion of Hi-C Ecto Cooler.

Image

It's iffy though. They usually avoided any product placement. In several episodes ALF drank cans of Shasta which had letters of a different font stuck on them so it simply said 'Soda'.

It kinda looks like a piece of green tape was added to make this read 'H C'.

Recently, I've been rewatching certain episodes of Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal, the parapsychological procedural hosted by Dan Aykroyd, and lo and behold, here's an explicit reference to ghostbusting in the episode, "John Doe."

@ 12:18

Funnily enough, this came right after I watched another episode, "All Hallow's Eve," and spotted an appearance by the "Blues Brothers" at a Halloween party. I combed through the entire scene looking for any Ghostbusters in attendance, but alas there were none.

@ 33:23

Also, I've always thought it was more than mere coincidence that two of the show's protagonists are named Peter and Ray.

Spotted somethin' familiar in that Netflix movie The Mitchells VS The Machines.

After Rick suggests the family might have to eat the dog complete with being heckled by nearby dino toys, Katie says that they shouldn't give up. Mainly she asks if there was a movie where the heroes give up. Specifically she says, and I quote: "What if the Ghostbusters said, 'You know what, let’s hide underground, eat some dog. Let the ghosts destroy New York.' "

Kinda weird how that reference is in a movie produced by the guys who turned down directing duties for Ghostbusters 3.
